BLW - advise please
« on: May 09, 2006, 10:50:33 am »
HI, My Lo is 24wks and is very interested in food. He doesn't sit alone yet though so i was wondering if i need to wait until he can? I was going to wait until 26wks, but if he can't sit up do i need to wait? Also, what was the first thing you gave your Lo. Thanks in anticipation, it's a bit scarey x x x

I had my LO eating upright with support as she wasn't entirely sitting on her own when i started either ( 6mos). We sat her on the couch or in her mini rocker with kick stand out. I supported her with pillows. I was really nervous too but now it's so much fun to see her get her little hands around food :) HTH

lots of people use the car seat. A bit messy but works a treat! We started dd off on pureed carrots (with a drop of sunflower oil in to improve vitamin absorption). Don't be alarmed, they come out looking just like they did when they went in  :-X

We started at 24 weeks as dd was following every mouthful we ate with her eyes. You know if it's the right time.

I put my DS on my lap, one of his arms tucked round my back and held the other leaving one hand free to feed him. I started with baby rice just before a feed and then finished him with his bottle.  Otherwise, you can try a 'bumbo' seat if you've got one. Good luck.

I think sitting him in a rocker is the best way to feed if not sitting that well yet. Also rice cereal is the best way to start just a few tablespoons mixed with formula/breasmilk/water 1 hr after morning or late morning feed. If all is going well after a few days then you can start to introduce a fruit or vegetable every 3-4days.

My DD didn't sit until 9 months unaided. We had a high chair that had a recline on it which is fantastic. It just takes that edge off them not being able to sit and doesn't squash their tummies up to much. Handy for us as both lo had a bit of reflux.
