When did you stop feeding at night?
« on: May 09, 2006, 19:17:51 pm »
I am curious as to when everyone stopped feeding at night. Did you wait for your LO to decide to stop or did you intervene (dilute feed, less ounces, pu/pd, etc...).

Thanks  ;D

Just on a hunch one night when my dd was 15 weeks I decided to just try giving her the paci when she woke up at her usual feeding time. She took it no problem and since then has not eaten at all at night, so I guess she did it on her own.  ;D

We stopped when DS was 6.5 months. Up until then he clearly needed it but then over the course of a week or so I noticed that he was taking less and what he did take was very slow. So we started the diluting with water tactic, and in only 4 days he lost interest 100% and we haven't fed at night since.

We stopped at 4 months the ped said she didn't need if she took 28-32oz during the day.   When she woke for the feed I left her alone if she didn't get upset and she settled back down after about 30-45mins. After not "responding" to feed her, it only took 3 nights.

I still feed my dd at night. She is breastfed though. She still takes a good feed during the night and I am not quite ready to working on quitting that feed just yet.

We stopped the 4-5ish am feed at 14 weeks, one day i decide to give him water instead, and he woke up like the two following days, and then i guess he figured "why wake up for cold water? its much better to sleep than that!!!" LOL, so he stopped  ;D.

Thanks for all of the responses. I can't believe so many stopped before 6 months. We still have one feed a night and I am debating whether to intervene or let LO give it up on her own.

Keep the resonses coming.  ;D

Thanks Teezee,
The one night feed is certainly not a problem. She eats and right back down. I'll think we'll leave it for now. I'd hate it if we started weaning and had more wakings at night than just the one.

My ds has just dropped his last night feed 4 nights ago. So just short of 8 months. He did it himself - he went to 1 only a couple of weeks ago. I usually try and settle him for a minute or so when he wakes, and if he won't settle easily I feed him (if it's been long enough since his last feed). He's bf. I kind of miss the night feed at the moment  :-\

Just curious, are you ladies counting the dream feed as a night feed here? Or just night feeds after 11pm?  DS doesn't have a dream feed, so "through the night" for us is 7pm to 7am. That doesn't happen too often; he's bf and usually either wakes at 3am or just before 6am.

Thanks!

My DD dropped it herself at about 10 weeks. We still have the odd night feed, but only once every couple weeks or so.

Well, I can finally reply to my own post.  ;D Abby has stopped waking at night on her own. She has been sleeping through 7:30-7:30 for almost two weeks now!!

Thanks again for all of the replys.

He stopped waking for a feed at 2 months and we stopped aking him for the dreamfeed at 3 months. Didn't make anydifference to when he woke up so we knew he didn't need it anymore. He took 40 oz at 3 months but now he is down to 24 oz...
