5 mo old-how long A time?
« on: May 09, 2006, 19:47:29 pm »
How much A time should a 5 month old have (including E)?  I can't seem to find the right balance.
Thanks!
Sarah

Can you post your routine please.

With my DD that was always 1hr 30mins -1hr 40mins, she always liked sleep.   Some babies have more.

Hi Corrina-
Thanks for your reply.  Here's our general routine.  I was at 3.5 EASY but switched to 4 about a month ago.  Then tried stretching his A time so he's awake 2 then 2.5 hrs.  Maybe too much?  naps are a real problem for us.

6:30 -up for the day & eat (may or may not have been awake for up to an hour before, in his crib)
7-A
8:30~9-S (I've been trying to stretch his A time from 1.5 to 2 to 2.5 hrs because of short naps)  usually 1.5 hrs
10:30 -E
11-A
12:30~1-S (same as above) usually 2 hrs
2:30-E
3-A
4:30-catnap-sometimes he skips if our day gets a little off, there is no time for catnap
5:10-A
5:30-E
6-bedtime routine (massage, last tank up bf, song, quiet time)
7-crib, usually out w/in 10 min

Thanks for any help/advice!
Sarah

With babies as young as your DS, the morning A time should be the shortest one.  With you not knowing when he wakes up, follow his tired cues. This may be leading to overtiredness in the morning and short naps, and continuing overtiredness throughout the day.

I may have read your post wrong, but I think he has 30 mins in the morning, then 30 mins during the afternoon and it is a hit and miss whether he has a catnap, is this right?

Corrina-
Thanks for the reply.  He usually wakes up at the 30 min mark, but I can usually get him back to sleep in the marooning for about 1.5 hrs (total crib time) and afternoon 2 hrs total...with that waking in the middle.  w2s hasn't works for us so far, and so we have these 30 min wakes, and then lots of nw.  I'm hoping an adjustment in A time can help.  I know some w/ los  his age are at 2.5 hrs awake time, so I was pushing to that.  Too much too soon?

It could be, just read your DS cues for when he is sleepy.

I done that mistake, pushing too soon for A time.  When I read my DD's cues, she was a lot happier.
