Just wondering if anyone has given their lo's flax oil for constipation?  My ds is 6 weeks old and has some mild constipation issues.  I was hoping to give him something very gental to just help ease his stool each day.  I've spoken to 2 different nurses in our ped's office and have been given contradictory advice about stuff to do.  No one at my ped's office has said to use flax oil, but I have read a bit about it on the web.  Just wondering if anyone has tried it and what they thought?

Hi Chicken!
I used flaxseed oil with my dd, but she was a bit older (6months)  I would cut open a capsule and squeeze it onto a spoon and she would take it straight off.  Worked wonders for the constipation!!!!  Don't know about the age suitability though sorry.

In the UK we have a med called Lactulose and this works wonders on softening the stool.  Our lo suffers quite severly from constipation, and we were put onto this med.

we use lactulose too , Ryan has been on it since he was 5 months old . i'm no expert but i would think 6 wks is a bit young for flax oil !

just found 2 links for you , they both mention flax seed oil in infants but no mention as to how young they class "infant" thought i would post them for you to have a read, as there's some helpfull tips there on constipation.

Things are a bit better, just have to use the thermomoter pretty often.  But hey, it's been coming out!

our dr. suggested 1 oz of white grape juice diluted w/ 1 oz of water to move things along. It won't have an immediate effect but if it is regular problem we found that a few days of juice bottles helped.

Are you using a cow's milk-based formula?  My dd struggled with constipation for the better part of the first year of her life until I stopped giving her cow's milk-based formula.  She was almost exclusively bf except for formula in cereal and one bottle/night and that small amount constipated her.  There are some great soy formulas on the market, that you may want to try.

Anyway, I ended up giving my dd flax seed oil, fish oil, and eventually laxatives every day until I finally saw a holistic doctor who told me about the cow's milk.  Haven't had a problem since.  Good luck.
