too big for travel cot
« on: May 10, 2006, 01:48:43 am »
My DS, 13mths, sleeps very well in his cot, but when he has to go to IL's etc, and sleep in his travel cot, he never sleeps well.  It is smaller than his normal cot.  He is staying with IL's in a few weeks for a couple of nights.  I am worried that he will not sleep well becauseof the cot.  He has a soft mattress in there, and I always take the toys that were in his cot.  Just wondering if I should use mattess on the floor with safety barrier or should I just put him in the travel cot.

I am sure this has happened with some other mums, wondering what you would do. Thanks for the advice.

Have you tryed putting a mattress on the floor with a bed rail to stop him falling out. Stair gate on the bedroom door so he cant escape.

Our DD is also too big for travel cots now. I am thinking in investing in a bed guard to put on a standard bed - the other option a friend of mine used was a lilo (v. low to the ground) when visiting friends. Don't know how comfy it would be but worth a try? (with stair guard on door!).
Maybe this is a precurser to transitioning to a cot? Or do you think he's a bit young?

I was approaching that problem too but then spotted this thread - have a look, it may help you too.

Was coming on to say the same thing Sinead!!!

Holly slept in her from 16months ish and loved it, She had no issue with getting out as she didn't think she could. She's never been able to get out of her cot herself so I don't even think it crossed her mind. The smaller ones have raised sides to stop them rolling out too.
