Self weaning??
« on: May 11, 2006, 03:33:25 am »
My LO has resently (in the last 3 days) started only taking two 9oz bottles a day. She hasn't woken at night to eat at all and she does seem to want more solids per meal. She's 8.5 months now and I guess my concern is, is this enough formula? Should I try to get other liquids in her? like water or something?
Its almost like she's weaning herself. Should I be worried?

We are going though the same thing at the moment so i know how you feel.
She takes all her 8oz morning bottle no worries but then will only take 4-6ozs at lunch (totday she took 6.5ozs) then will fight with her night bottle. She use to take 8ozs at bed but lately will fight after 4ozs, i think some of this is due to teething. But i find her lunch bottle she getting smaller, i tired not giving her one at all for a few days but she has been really fussy with her lunch so i have given it to her again for a while.
Will she take any of her lunch bottle if you offer it to her?

Around 8 months ds started not wanting his bottles anymore went down to 12ozs per day.  went on until just this week, Ds is almost 10 months.  BAck up to taking 24 or more per day.
I don't think I would worry to much especially if your lo is still sleeping though night.  Mine still never has.  Our ped says that it is normal for them to go down to 12oz per day, and as long as they get at least that as well as solids, not to worry.
Hopefully that an give you a bit of piece os mind. :)

of course I posted this and then she went back to drinking all her bottles today no problem  ::)

Turns out it was because she was cutting a tooth  :P Last night she went to bed toothless, then this afternoon on the way to the Early Years Center as she nibbled on my finger, low and behold a tooth.. sneaky little tooth :-p
