My LO is 6-1/2 months, and she is usually a pretty good sleeper.  She used to take about three naps a day, two at two hours long and one at 45 minutes or so.  She knows how to fall asleep on her own, and will do so for her first nap.  But the rest of the day has just gone crazy.  She fights off sleep, wakes after 30 minutes or so, but is still tired and fussy when she wakes up.  Here is what her day has been like as of late (the last week and a half):

7:00a - wake and BF
8:00a - breakfast of solids
8:20a - nap
9:30a - wake and fuss - when she starts full blown crying (usually after a few minutes) I try the lullaby toy, etc.
10:00a - BF
11:30a - tired, so I try to help her sleep
12:00p - still fussing
1 or 2p - BF and finally sleeps, but wakes up 20 to 35 minutes later and won't go down again until bed, although tired
6 to 6:30 p - dinner of solids
7p - bath
7:20p - BF
7:45p bed

She has been getting up twice in the night (used to be for hunger, but now I think it is a combo of bad sleep in the day and habit).  I have been limited her night feeds and letting her fall asleep in her crib.  But she is really struggling with her naps.  She will go down on her own in the morning just beautifully, but then only be in there for about an hour.  I am trying to keep her in there for longer in hopes it will extend.  The afternoon naps are just horrible.  She is tired, but she won't settle with rocking or the lullaby toy.  She won't take a passy, and nursing will sometimes get her into a fitful sleep that doesn't last a full cycle.

I don't think she is really teething yet, although she has started to drool a bit more the last couple of days.  I gave her some pain reliever this morning just in case, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference.  She is exhausted, and thus requires almost constant attention.   :-[  Help?

Hi Sarah,
I know how frustrating it is to have such a hard time with naps.  It seems to me that the problem is that your lo is not having enough awake time.  Around 4 months most babies begin to make a transition to a 4hr EASY routine where the los are awake for 2 hours.  Your lo could probably begin handling close to 2.5 hours of A time (this can vary greatly).  The transition to longer awake time can take some time, increasing by 10-15 minutes at a time for a couple days.  When my lo starts taking 30 minute naps I know it's time to increase the A time.

Here is a link to how to transition to a 4 hr EASY:

Here are some 6-12 month EASY routines so  you can see some examples of what your day should look more like:
