Pillow

I am not sure if this is the right thread to post this, but was wondering at what age you introduce a pillow and duvet.

Just been curious about this and wanted to hear when people thought.

Thanks

Advice nowadays is not to introduce pillows and duvets until they are 12 months. If I remember I think I gave Ethan a pillow at around 15 months or so - I did it thinking I'd get him used to a pillow before he moved to a big bed but he's still in his cot anyway!

Ciara had a pillow somewhere between 12 and 15 months due to having a really bad cough - we used the pillow to elavate her head a bit.  We found she slept really well with it and stopped wriggling about the bed etc.  She slept with that and her grobag until she was well over 2 then we got her a duvet which she also loves

Thanks for the input.

I have used a pillow for DS on two occasions during nap time when he had croup - this too was to keep him elevated, but I was way too scared to use it when he went to bed at night when he was sick.

I too was thinking at around 12 months or so.

Another question - would we introduce an adult pillow or can you actually get one for kids?
 ???
Thanks

You can actually find todddler sized pillows, but I can't remember where at the moment.      :(   Mine is determined to use her stuffed toy as a pillow.  Either that, or it's under her chest.   :)

We managed to find small pillow at Zellers - I think they are like a travel pillow?  It is cotton and washes really well.  My son uses it more as a comfy thing to lay beside but he likes it :)

We used a regular pillow, but made sure it was one that wasn't too puffy.  Flat and non-allergenic.

I would imagine you could get kids ones thou. Mothercare and toyrus probably do them

Just from a different perspective....I asked my chiropractor about when to introduce a pillow and her advice was to delay it as long as possible (to as late as five years old).  I guess pillows make us lose the natural curve in our necks which cause a lot of neck problems in the future.  My neck is horrible, so I'm going to try and hold off with my DS.  He uses his ducky for a pillow when he wants one.  I don't worry too much about that.  Thought her advice was interesting.

We gave Aiden one (a really flat one) when he started asking for one, because he saw Mummy & Daddy had one. It  was just before he moved into a bed, so around 2yo... as yet he only has blankets on his bed & he will be 3 in July.
I agree with holding off as long as possible, I had awful neck problems a couple of months ago & got a new (pretty flat pillow) which took a few nights to get used to, but my neck has been better than it has for years

I've always loved big pillows and used to sleep on 3 of them but have had a sore neck too.  I've started using flatter pillows and now only use 2 so I'm going for a slow wean!

As I said before, Ciara's pillow is really flat and I certainly wouldn't give her a big plump one.
