when are your toddlers meal times?
« on: May 11, 2006, 23:52:50 pm »
Out of interest I was wondering when your toddlers have their meals or milk (if they still have any) and general idea as to what kind of snack and when

We are having troubles trying to get Khyan to eat dinner later than 5.30pm and we would really love to have family dinner but DH doesn't even get home from work till 6.30pm-ish.

So I thought maybe someone may have a plan that may help us sort our out  :)

We pretty much eat most of our meals as a "family" (Aiden almost 3 & Liam almost 1)
Roughtly...
7.30am -Breakfast
9.30am - morning Tea - used to be later, but found it easier to give Liam his too - toast & milk
12.30 Lunch (often picnic style, as we tend to be out & about between Liam's naps & Aiden naps later
after Nap (3/4pm) afternoon tea - fruit (Aiden has been known to eat 2 apples at this time... usually 1-1.5 peices for Aiden)
5.30pm Liam Dinner
6/6.30pm Aiden Dinner (with us - or just dh if Liam tired & needs an early Bed... if dh is workign late, Aiden & I eat with Liam) Dh is usually home by about 6/6.15pm
7.30pm dh & Aiden share dessert (normally fruit & custard)
NB Aiden now has an 8.30pm Bedtime as he still wants a Nap (& all are happy with that  ;))

Aiden doesn't have any milk except M/T & Liam still bf (3/4pm + breakfast & Bed).

James and I eat breakfast and lunch together, but Dh and I usually have dinner much later, so our mealtimes are as follows:

7am breakfast
8am milk
10:30am morning tea
1-1:30pm lunch and milk
3pm afternoon tea
5:30pm dinner
6:30pm milk

this works well for a 7pm bedtime.  We are hoping at some stage, to make his dinner at 6 and we will bring our dinner forward.  Dh and I don't usually eat till after james has gone to bed, but if we can get him to 6 we will join him for dinner.

Hope that helps

We have always had our meals together.  However because your dh gets home later maybe you could give Khyan his dinner at 5 or 5:30 and then he could have a snack at 6:30 or 7 depending on when he goes to bed.  Ewan always has a snack at 7 before bed and that is 2 hours hafter dinner.

Hi

We have breakfast around 8am depending on when Ciara wakes

Snack around 1030am

Lunch between 12-1pm

Afternoon snack around 330pm

Tea between 5-6pm

Supper around 8pm

Dp works shifts so sometimes we all have tea together and other times we will eat later once Ciara has gone to bed.
Mummy to 2 beautiful kiddies.

7.45 breakfast
11.20/11.45 lunch
17.30 dinner
18.30 snack

drinks offered in between, water or milk but not within an hour of mealtime. On days we go out dd gets half a cracker in the car, the odd afternoon she will ask for something in the afternoon and if it's before 4.30 I i will give her a small snack. My reason for being so strict on food times is that dd has no interest in food and really needs to be hungry to eat and is a fussy eater. Hopefully things will change in the next year and we can be a bit more flexilbe though dinner time will always be pretty timed.

We tried having dinner together, but it didn't work out since DH gets home late and by the time dinner is ready, DD is tired and cranky. So we've found that it works out better if DD gets her dinner earlier on her own, but then spends time with us up until her bedtime which has been around 8pm lately.

She doesn't have all her meals at exact time, but it generally goes like this:

7:00-7:30am - breakfast
11am - snack
1-2pm - lunch
4pm - snack
5:30-6:00pm - dinner
7:30pm - snack if she had dinner before 5:30pm

DD has breakfast with DH cuz I try to sleep in. DD has all her other meals with me, except dinner is with DH if it is the weekend or on one of his days where he works from home.

Dh is rarely home for dinner, other than his 2 days off.  We do eat together then.
8:00 breakfast with milk
10:00 snack with diluted juice
12:30 lunch with milk
3:30 snack with juice
5:30-6 dinner with milk
7:30 milk
I also keep her diluted juice sippy handy during play time and while we're out.  She has about 3 oz of milk with her meals, and then 3-5 oz before bed.  I wish it were more, but at least it's something.
