Is it safe to give lactulose to a 5 - 6 week old to help soften their stools? :o

Hi again
You would need to speak to your doctor or health professional, to find out if this method is the correct one for your LO. The responses you have received are what other mums have had to resort to or where advised by their doctors.

Hi there,

I would have to agree with Lauren.

DS has been on lacutlose since he was 6 months old, even then it was prescribed by a doctor.

Let us know how you get on.

i agree , we have used it since Ryan was 5months old , although you can get it over the counter it was prescribed to us . it is hard to judge the right dose , it can result in very explosive nappies and cramp if too much is given ! with your LO being so young i would deffinately visit the DR's . it is hard to watch them in pain straining. we were given suppositries but Ryan would freak at nappy change because he hated them (can't blame him , i hated doing it)it took us a while to gain his trust back .
