fighting for a 10:30 bedtime
« on: May 15, 2006, 01:02:03 am »
Hi- I'm entirely new to any type of schedule for my LO. The first day was a disaster. The second was textbook perfect. And today- day 3-disaster.  No naps, only a couple of 20-30 minute scattered catnaps, and bedtime- what bedtime? She lies awake from 6:30 untill 10:30, when I go to sleep. I think she thinks she's missing a party downstairs, and just can't stand to be by herself upstairs.  Anyway- I can settle her down by holding her so tightly and with her pacifier and she actually will close her eyes- maybe even nod off, but the moment I put her down, her eyes pop open, and stay open- her room is completely dark, so I have no idea what she's looking at, but there they are, as adorable as they are- wide open. But she's calm, so I'll go downstairs. Not more than 30 minutes will go by and she'll cry. So i'll go up and those eyes are wide open.  I try the shh/pat, it works, but she won't stay asleep. I have no idea how to instill this 7:00 bedtime when she thinks that she only sleeps when I sleep.  Any ideas?? I'm clueless. I also don't understand how yesterday was so flawless and today is so messed up. anyway, help?  She simply will not go to sleep!

How old?  What does the rest of the day look like?

She's 10 wks, and usually has a pretty good day- eats every three hours and will take naps- she wakes at 6 to eat, but wants to go to sleep again right away- in which case she'll sleep until 10 if I let her- I wake her at 9 though to feed- she can only stay awake for 30 minutes again before she's cranky and wants to sleep- so I put her down- but the thing is, I think that she doesn't start her day untill the 9 am feed- so as a result, her "bedtime" is 10! Everything gets bumped out- and she's been this way from day one. Sleeps in and takes late and long afternoon naps (which the last few days I've cut short as I has been attemtping to follow EASY exactly.)- it just results in an incredibly over tired little girl who does not want to sleep at 7.

I should also add that she has been diagnosed with acid reflux, for which I will give her Zantac. I think this explains why some days are perfect and others are all over the place....but it still doesn't explain her bedtime...
