confused again...
« on: May 15, 2006, 13:44:41 pm »
My DD is 8.5 months old and has recently dropped bottle #3. She stopped for taking 3 for a few day's then had a tooth and had all 3 again. Now she seams to have dropped bottle #3 for good.
She was taking 3 bottles of 9oz, now she takes 8oz bottle of whole milk, about an hour after brakefast, and 9-10oz of formula about 10-15 minutes before bed.
She still sleeps 12hours most nights, when she does wake she usually goes right back to sleep with no intervention, She doesn't seem to be dehydrated, she still has wet diapers, and everything.
Should I push to get that 3ed bottle in?
I'm just worried that she's weaning herself to fast.
Am I doing the right thing weaning her onto whole milk for 9 months?
I find that we're having a lot of trouble affording the formula, the milk is a lot cheaper and she seems to like it better.
Should I maybe keep her on one bottle of each?
Maybe try giving her a bottle to snack on during the day? or would that ruin her appetite?
I'm a little confused.  :-\

Hi Karita,

We are going through the same thing at the moment DD is only taking 6ozs 3 times a day rather than her ususal 3x8ozs. I spoke to my CHN about putting DD onto cows milk and she didn't want me to do it yet as it doesn't have all the extra vitamins that formula does. We were going to do it at 10.5-11months before we go away on holiday so we are holding out for another month with the formula.
So i will follow your post to see what others say.

I was thinking along the lines of Stacy as well - perhaps you could mix a bit of formula in with her cow's milk and also add it to her food?

This stage of weaning can be quite problematic can't it? Colin was fighting dropping a bottle for a while but then one day out of the blue that was that and now we're lucky if he drinks 3x8 oz. It's been quite a while since he did, it's more like 3x6 oz now.

Yes they do eat more solids. I called her dr today, he said to leave it be. He said to stick with one bottle of milk, and one of formula and not to with hold solids. He thinks she's doing fine and as long as she is happy and healthy he told me not to worry.
I had asked him about mixing them together, he advised against it. He didn't really say way. But he told be to kepp one and one, if she had a 3ed bottle make it milk, then by 9.5-10 months depending on her, I can drop formula al together.

How did you remember that!!!!   :o  I use either formula or cows milk (cooking only)

Yes, I make;
various cheese sauces, pasta sauces, risottos, soups...

Really.. anything I had made that has been frozen and when defrosted looks like it needs a bit liquid - I just add milk to it.
