Snacks
« on: May 17, 2006, 19:54:41 pm »
I was wondering what I could offer my 10 month old at 2:30 instead of a bottle of formula.  I am wanting to drop his afternoon bottle and just offer a snack at this time as he has his dinner at 4:30.

Can anyone give me any ideas of a healthy snack to offer him at this time.

Some of the current snacks he has during the day are:- toast, strawberries, bananna, yoghurt, baby biscuits, baby crisps, cerel bar.

Was hoping to be able to introdue a new food to him.

Thanks for your help.

My 8 month old loves nutrios (cheerios) or apples cut up and rolled in crunched cheerios. That's her fav snack. Anything she can dodge and find!! she will also have a few bits of cheese with it sometimes and a sippy cup of 2 oz water/formula.

Hi Paula,

We are back giving a snack after nap and i give DD water in her cup and he favourite is saltanas i think she would eat the whole box if i let her.
If you are replacing a bottle though i would go for yoghurt, cheese or custard some form of dairy and something filling as well.

Hi Natasha,

Thanks for the advice - well today he had a yoghurt, a cereal bar and a few baby crisps, and he was fine until dinner time.  I did give him a bigger dinner and he ate it all.

We are holding onto the lunch bottle at the moment as she is fussing with her lunch, i think she is getting bored, what do you give? She also has a cold so i think we will hold off on the dropping of the bottle for another month. How much is Tom having for his morning and night bottles?
Great that you dropped the lunch bottle successfully  :D

Hi Natasha,

I dropped Thomas' lunch time bottle when he was around 6months, and then he was only on 3 bottles a day.  He would have his morning bottle, then a snack bottle of a bout 7oz at about 2:30 as he has his lunch at 11:30, and then his night time bottle at 6:15-6:30.

He is having 8oz in both his bottles - I have just recently switched him to the stage 4 Follow on Formula, and due to the fact that it is so think he is battling to get it out the bottle even though I have 2 big slits in the teat so he has not had as much today - I am thinking of going back to his old formula as he is also suffering quite a bit from gas since switching.

He seems to be coping extremely well with not having an afternoon bottle.  He has a 4oz yogurt and half a cereal bar which has the equivalent of 1/2 glass of milk in.

We have also started to give him cream cheese on a piece of toast around 10am for a snack, so know that he is definitely getting his quota in in calcium.

I will keep you posted on how we are getting on.
