When did you introduce snacks when during the day?
« on: May 19, 2006, 23:29:59 pm »
Sorry if this has been posed before. My DS is a hefty 23 pound 8 month old. He takes about 26 ounces of formula and 12 to 13 ounces of solid food. In the last few days, he has been getting up earlier from his afternoon naps and demanding a bottle at 3 ish whereas he usually drinks at 4pm. The amount is the same though. Is this growth spurt?
I feel so dumb but I'm not really sure when I should introduce snacks and when I should give it to him.
He's still on 4 bottles a day: 7, 11:15, 4:00 and 7pm and has solids at 8:30, 12:30/1, and 5:30/6.
TIA!!

I couldn't tell from your post when your ds goes down for naps, but my dd has a snack right before nap, to tide her over so that she can have a decent sleep.  We introduced that at 8 months, which is when her milk feeds stopped being exactly four hours apart and became more in line with regular breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime snack times.

Here's our basic schedule:

8:00 - breastfeed
9:00 - solids
10:45 - snack
11:00 - nap
12:15 - breastfeed
1:15 - solids
3:15 - snack
3:30 - nap
5:30 - breastfeed
6:30 - solids
8:15 - breastfeed
8:30 bed

However, she's on the small side (17 lb at 9 mos) but eats a lot, so it may be easier for her to last that long between feeds.

I give snacks for energy when trying to drop a nap: 3 to 2 or 2 to 1.

Zander is 8.5 months old and he has at least one snack a day.  His feeds look like this;

7am Breastfeed
8am Breakfast
10am Snack - fruit
11.45pm Lunch
3pm Breastfeed
4.30pm Dinner
6pm Breastfeed

He's having his last feed quite early at the moment as he's especially tired and going to bed early.  When he was going to bed at 7pm dinner was at 5pm and he'd sometimes have a small snack at around 4pm to tide him over.

Thank you so much for your help! I've added a snack after his PM nap since I've recently dropped to 3 bottles and he takes his midday bottle right before his pm nap and the snack after he wakes up is working great to tide him over until dinner. Thanks again ;)
