illness and feeding
« on: May 20, 2006, 10:54:44 am »
DS is coming to the end of a bad cold. All through it he hasn't had very much milk but has managed to have about 20-25oz if I included a night feed. He has managed to have some solids too. Now he is getting much better I thought we were over the worst but last night and this morning he has thrown his (small) feed up! He is happy enough so I'm not concerned that he is seriously ill. I just think he has lots of mucus in his stomach (had a very mucusy diaper) and so milk is not sitting well with him. He has had a very small amount of solids and a little bit of water but I'm concerned about his lack of appetite and in particular his lack of milk/fluids. Any advice or experiences of this? How long it is likely to last?

Cath {{{hugs}}}  I know this is a very tiring time for you as well.

Calum has just got over another chest infection, his milk dropped to about 6oz per day (still no nightfeeds) and we were lucky if he could keep that down. He was projectile vomitting every where and I had to stop his solids a few days then slowly give him runny pureed soup and some mil and watery juice to keep fluids in him.  He has little wet nappies and his fontanel will sunken, so I just kept offering him water.

If you know he is ill I wouldn't be concerned about a lack of apatite, Calum went 6 or 7 days with little milk and food, now I am glad to say his appetite has return with avengance and he is taking loads more than before he was sick (both milk & solids).

If you are in anyway concerned see you doctor.

Lauren, thank you so much! It good to know that its perfectly normal. I guess we'll just have to ride it out. We're on day 9 so hopefully it won't last much longer.
