Will he ever hold his own bottle?
« on: May 23, 2006, 20:22:47 pm »
Hi all

This may sound like a stupid question, but what age do lo's start holding their own bottle?

The reason that I am asking is that DS never holds his own bottle - when he has a bottle he has to be entertained and have his toys or his blankie in his hands.

If I give him his bottle - even if he is hungry, he will hold it and chew the teat, but will not drink.  If I take it off him and feed him myself he will drink the whole bottle.  He will use his sippy himself, but not a bottle.

The reason I am wondering is that we are traveling on holiday soon and it is a 7 hour drive, and thought it would be so much easier for DS to hold his own bottle while we are driving.

Just really curious......

Tyler never did, no matter how much I wanted him to! Boy, did that motivate me to drop bottles when he turned 1!

I think I am leaning the same way Melissa - Luckily he is only on 2 bottles now, so hopefully they should be easy to drop

Hi there

Coincidentally William has just started to hold his own bottle over the past couple of days. He's just suddenly started to do it and is getting the hang of it really well. It's a funny feeling as Ive always so enjoyed bottle feeding him as its such a cute and loving time. I'll always hold him when he has his bottle as I love the closeness but I'll have no choice but to let him hold it himself soon once he has it perfected! He's a very willful young man when he has learned something new -he just has to do it!

Ryan had no interest in holding his own bottle either , it was such a pain having to stop all the time and offer him juice. he was around 18 months before he started to hold it himself , we even had to play a game to get him to do it , now i wish i never had as i can't get him to stop holding the bottle  ::) .you can't win sometimes !

Same as Melissa here too. Dd never held her own bottle. Once we dropped them at a year she had no problem with the sippy or  regular cups. Something about that bottle!  ;D
