Help stopped sleeping through!!!!! 24 week old
« on: May 24, 2006, 20:26:13 pm »
Hi there,

My DS was on a good EASY until 4 nights ago and it's all gone pear shaped.

Our EASY was looking something like this

E 7am
A
S 845/9 (2hours / 2hours 15ish)
E 11am
A
S 1pm (2hour nap)
E 3pm
A
E 515
A
E 7pm
S 710ish

I could not have complained about anything DS was doing. He would settle fantastically and has been napping and sleeping well since around 6 weeks and sleeping through since 12 weeks.

My DD and I got ill and I think DS has now picked up a snuffly cold but I couldn't be sure. The very first night waking we had several nights ago was because he got stuck but the last 4 nights have been so different. I don't think it's hunger as I am sometimes able to settle back and he still isn't that settled after a feed. The cry is a similar one to when he had wind. He isn't feeding as well as normal. Today I moved him to a 3 hour EASY to see if that would help. It's also similar to an overtired cry. Last night wasn't too bad. He woke after 45 mins I did a little pu/pd with him and he went until 330ish and he was looking for boob. I feed him and didn't hear from him until 7am. Tonight he's been up and down. He starts crying and has got himself settled without me going in a few times. I don't think he's hungry and he didn't seem overtired. He had 3 shorter naps today rather than 2 long ones. His first nap was cut short because he woke up crying and I fed him at the 3hour mark (normally 4hours+ for his 2nd feed of the day).

I know this is a ramble I am just putting my thoughts out there in the hope this sounds familiar to someone.
I am breastfeeding and my supply does feel a bit lower than normal but that could be because he's not feeding as well. DS has only put on 1oz in 2 weeks. His nose is snuffly and we have him raised up. I can't see any teeth. I can't work out if he's overtired or not. I don't think he's sleeping too much. It could be just the cold but as he's used to settling himself I haven't a clue what to do to help him. The only thing that does calm him down is me singing. God knows how because its so out of tune. I know DH must be laughing at it through the monitor  :)

Can anyone offer some advice please?

The major night wakings stopped once I put on a bit of bonjella. The wakings now are occasional but I am sure they are related to hunger as they depend on how well he feeds during the day etc.

think your LO might be teething. sounds very similar to when my DD got her first teeth at 18 wks. could be taking less food as their gums are painful and uncomfortable to feed. therefore they don't take a full feed hence the night waking (as you've noticed ;D) have you noticed any other signs. such as drooling etc. also my DD gets very snuffly when shes teething and we also raise her cot up.

Thanks for the post.

We've got a couple of book at one end of her cot. He's really snuffly and drooling loads. The other day he had the classic one red check and that's what prompted the teething gel. You could well be right. The feeling is all over the place. I am going to hold out on the weaning to see if the feeding settles as I am not keen to wean too soon.

Thanks
