Help with early riser.
« on: May 25, 2006, 20:09:43 pm »
I need some help.  My baby wakes up now at 5am, coo's sometimes for an hour then starts to cry OR wakes at 5am and cries.  She will either be crying because she doesn't want to be in crib anymore and is wide awake, in that case she will play with toys easily, or if I put her in front of toys and she is ccrying histarically for food I will feed her..  I will go down when she cries. I shush/pat for 20min, doesn't work she gets more irritated and is wide awake.  I change diaper and try shush/pat again, doesn't work.

Like this morning woke at 5am, went down at 6am, changed diaper, put in her vibrating chair to play with toys, she didn't cry, I fell asleep on couch. She started to cry at 7:45am for food.  Fed her...then she was really tired, of course, but tried to keep her up as her nap is at 10am, didn't work, she fell asleep at 9:15pm, so I let her sleep to 11:15pm then woke her up myself so no more than a 2 hour nap, let her play, fed at 12pm, and rest of the day is fine.  Why oh why does she keep waking up so early?  The sun doesn't even start to come up until 6am, but she's wide awake at 5am.  Here is my scchedule::   I know I posted something similar to this couple weeks ago, but since no one really knew I am posting again, but with more details and with some hope someone will know what to do.... I am so tired.

8:00am (well, use to be 8am) ::  E: 6oz

10:00am ::  S 2hrs

12:00pm :: E  6.5oz

2:00pm :: S  2hrs

4:00pm :: E  6oz

6:00pm  :: S  45min

Fed (8oz), bathed, and in bed by 8:30pm

10:30pm  ::  DF 6oz    (tried 10pm, 10:30pm, 11pm, 12pm, doesn't make a difference)

as it seems your lo isn't tired you may want to try adjusting the timing of the catnap and/or adjusting the length of the morning nap (maybe cut it down by half hr or so..). if she is getting too much sleep in the morning then she may not 'need' that sleep when she is waking early. also, if the catnap is too late in the evening than that could also disrupt her sleep as she will be rested from the later nap and not need as much sleep. i would first work on that catnap even give it at 5:30 or so rather than at 6 and see how it works out. if you are still having issues i would work on tweaking the nap a little. keep us posted!

Thanks teezee, yesterday I woke her up from her am nap 15min earlier, she didn't catnap at all, couldn't get her too, and she slept in this morning until 6am.  One extra hour, woot!  Hopefully it wasn't a fluke.  I'll will keep doing this and hopefully it will work.  I will keep you updated, thanks!

Well it seemed to help a lot!  She's now waking at 7am instead of 5am!  Always better!!  Basically just really watched her nap time to make sure she didn't go over the 2 hours in the afternoon and put her down for a nap 15min later in the morning.  Also made she her catnap was only 45min and not an hour, like I would let it go sometimes.  Thanks a bunch for the advice!
