DD starting to refuse solids
« on: May 29, 2006, 16:41:56 pm »
DD is 11 months and starting to refuse solids.

I have read back on a few posts, where babies are refusing solids.

She has already got 7 teeth, she didn't refuse solids then, but another one is coming through, but I doubt this is why she is refusing.  I have given her finger food, (independence streak coming out) but no she just throws them on the floor.  She is taking very little at breakfast, no lunch, no dinner.

All she does take is her yoghurt or fruit (jars), but not finger food fruit.

Should I stop giving her the yoghurt and fruit, until she eats some meat and veggies?

At least she is taking her bottles, about 20-22oz a day.

This has been going on for a week now.  But (fingers crossed) no night wakings due to hunger.

I am no expert on babies that age as mine is just hitting 8 months, but I keep remembering something my mom says to me all the time when I worry Ella is not taking enough milk and/or solids. She is constantly reminding me that as they grow up closer to a year there hunger decreases dramatically because they aren't growing as quickly anymore and she refers to the fact that I always worried her because I would eating nothing more than a few beans a day and I was still fine. She was a delivery room and er nurse (now retired) so has worked with many different "people." I trust her so completely and she still amazes me that she is pretty much always right. So I guess what I am trying to say is just go with the flow. I have been trying to do this myself this past two weeks as Ella has dramatically cut out drinking her bottle and has switched to solids?? :-\ They change all the time don't they? Good luck I really hope she starts taking her solids again soon for you :) Sarah

Corrina you are having a hard time at the moment between sleeping and eating. We are also battling both at the moment. My DD loves her food but for the past few weeks hasn't wanted much just her bottles. Then today she wolfed down all her food and bottles and had a total of 3hrs worth of naps  ::)
I can't figure her out at the moment. Anyway all i can suggest is keep offering as much as she will take that is what i did/do.

Hi, Natasha I just read your reply to Corrina's post and it sounds as though you have been experiencing some similar issues to myself and my LO (see my post - Food or nap issue?)!  Do you have any advice for me?  My LO is a couple of weeks younger than yours so looks like there may be some similarities. Would be grateful for any advice.

Natasha, I think your Catherine and my Faith are twins across the waters.

I think I know what the problem is, teething, I think her molars are on the move/or coming through, but teething is never has this effect on her eating.  Like Catherine she is just interested in her bottles.

Yes Catherine is getting her eye tooth at the moment by the looks of things and i have been told they are the most painful to come through next to the molars. It's funny everytime i read one of your posts i find myself saying that is what Catherine is going through  ::) Saying that she is back to wolfing down her meals this morning she had a huge bowl of porriage, half a piece of her Daddy's toast, milk with breakfast and finsihed off her morning bottle of 6ozs.
Justine i have just replied to your other post  :)

just wanted to add that we had the same problem when DD was cutting her molars recently. just was not interested in anything. one thing that helped me as she was also refusing finger foods. was to put food in her bowl and let her eat it herself (very intresting with spaghetti ;D) mess everywhere but 1 v happy child
