DD is still not taking enough formula
« on: May 29, 2006, 23:11:47 pm »
I'm trying to move my 4mos. DD to a 4hr EASY.  Here's the thing...When she was eating every 3 hrs. she would take anywhere between 4 - 5 1/2 oz. at each feeding except dreamfeed where she would only take 2oz.  She takes up to an hour to eat (I know, really long time - drives me crazy - talk about pack a lunch!).  For the past couple of days I have been feeding her every 3 1/2 hrs and she will only take 4 oz. - thats it.  She starts playing with the bottle and will not take anymore.  The doc said that now that she is 4 mos. she should be taking at least 24 oz in a day.  We are only at 18oz!  She doesn't even seem hungry or go after her bottle!  Any suggestions???  ???  ???

Is she at a healthy weight? When she plays with her bottle, she doesn't seem frustrated does she?

What are the reasons for moving to a 4 hour easy? I am just asking becuase my DD never really made it to 4 hours until I introduces solids and she was on three meals a day. Some LO's just are not ready at 4 months.

Hi!  Have you tried changing the nipple to the next level up?  Maybe she needs the bigger hole?

Leah's mom -
She is a healthy weight - 14.5 lbs. - 75% for height and weight.  She isn't frustrated at all, she is actually smiling.  When she stopped napping and was having trouble going to sleep.  Also she wasn't taking very much at each feeding.  It was recommended by one of moderators.

Zoey -
I tried moving her to a big nipple but I think it was too long for her mouth.  She uses orthodontic nipples and the next size up is supposed to be for 6 mos and older.  I guess I could try them again.

She sleeps through the night but this past week she has been somewhat restless and sometimes wakes up for brief time.  This is all new up until this past week.

I have never gone by the 'recommendations' on the teat packaging, that is all they are recommendations - if your LO is bored because she is having to suck to much them try the faster teat and see if it makes a difference. :D

Let us know how you get on.
