Don't use glass jars as when they freeze tiny splinters of glass can brake of and get into the food.  Its safer to use ice cube trays or anything plastic.

Ice cube trays are just temporary 'holders' for the food until it freezes, then the cubes are popped into labelled freezer bags.  I would think that jars would not prevent freezerburn the way freezer bags would but I've never tried jars so I can't say for sure.

Kimberly's right, you should never use glass. It's very dangerous for the lo.

If you don't want to use ice cube trays, you can also put dollops of whatever size on a cookie sheet and freeze that way. Some people also use muffin tins.
