mayonnaise
« on: May 30, 2006, 20:04:05 pm »
hello,

can anyone help?  i was wondering whether it was safe to feed my 9 month old UK supermarket bought mayonnaise ie. the long life stuff such as hellmans that comes in a jar?  i am assuming it's ok as it is fine to eat during pregnancy but didn't want to go ahead before checking and i can't seem to find any info anywhere!  i thought it might make boiled eggs a bit more palatable for my daughter with a spoonful of mayo in!

thanks,
jules

well, store bought mayo doesn't contain raw eggs like homemade if that's what u are afraid of., but i'm not sure regarding the fat content and additives though.... can u try cream cheese with the eggs to make them more edible, mix the hard boiles yolk with cream cheese, can also be made into a spread on toast....

Hi

Annabel Karmel suggests using mayonnaise in sandwich fillings for first finger foods. If it is store-bought then it is not a salmonella risk. As you have already introduced eggs it should be fine.
Arwen had tuna mayo sandwiches for lunch today, and egg mayonnaise last week.
