6 months and not interested in food
« on: June 01, 2006, 12:46:25 pm »
My DD was 6 months this week and just won't open her mouth for her food.  She started off having one cube of veggies for lunch but has started taking less each day rather than more.  I've tried at different times of the day but that's not made any difference.  I am feeding her about an hour after her 11am bottle (she is mix fed, bf am and before bed and ff during the day) but I have also tried before and during and still the same.  She will eat banana and rusk if I break bits up and put them in her mouth but not if they are mashed and on a spoon.

Has anyone got any ideas of what I can try next?  All the other babies of the same age are wolfing down 3 huge meals.

First things I know it can be hard introducing food and a little frustrating but you are doing a great job! All babies are different and with patience and perserverance she will eventually take it, just don't push them on her. At this stage it is not so much about nutrition and more about mastering the art of eating rather than drinking from a bottle. Just keep offering and is she resists, wait 10 minutes and offer again, if she doesn't want it then take it away and try again at a later meal. You may be surprised that one day she may take to it again, the main thing is to make feeding a fun time and not to get stressed about it (easier said than done I know ;D) As well maybe she is wanting to feed herself as some babies don't want to be fed by a spoon. Maybe try giving her a spoon too and let her try to feed herself while you spoon some in. As well maybe try some very tiny/mushy finger foods that are easily gummed up. I am no expert, but I know Ella changes everyday so just try and go with the flow, it will happen I promise ;D Sarah
