Any suggestions to what I can give in LO sandwiches
« on: June 02, 2006, 13:50:42 pm »
My DD is 11 1/2 months, she refuses to eat anything apart from finger food.

I have been giving her sandwiches/toast with jam (no sugar), marmite (which she loves) dairylea spread.  Can I try peanut butter (smooth).

Can you ladies (or gents) suggest anything else I might give her.

She doesn't like veggies on their own unless they are mixed and are covered in sauce.

Also, she doesn't seem to like being fed from a spoon anymore, I have given her spoon many times but she automatically throws it on the floor, any tips?

My lo loves canned pink salmon in butties - the flakes are nice and soft, and you can make them as small as you need. Look out for the ones with no added salt. :)

Try toast with cream cheese (you might need to heat the cream cheese for a few seconds to make it spreadable)
Also, toast with cottage cheese.

Have you tried giving her the spoon so *she* can put the spoon in her mouth herself? (instead of trying to feed her while you hold the spoon)

Whenever my DD decides she doesn't want *me* to spoon feed her, I either let her use her fingers or let her use the spoon herself. I tend to let her use fingers for less messy stuff, and I try to encourage her to use the spoon when it is something messy. At first I had to help her a little by holding/supporting the spoon a little bit while she tried to hold the spoon & guide it into her mouth. After a short while, she figured it out and can usually hold & guide the spoon into her mouth without me having to help. The only thing I do is load the spoon and hand it to her to grab. She is so happy when she can do it herself. She grins, and used to do this "victory wave" with the empty spoon afterwards. Really cute.

Have you tried making grilled cheese sandwiches? Breaking them up into small finger size pieces before giving them to her.

Some things I used when John was younger:

apple butter and cream cheese
hummus
boiled egg yolk mixed with cream cheese or yogurt
melted cheese on toast
soy nut butter and spreadable fruit
cream cheese and spreadable fruit
pizza sauce and mozzerella cheese on toast
