Teething HELP!!!
« on: June 02, 2006, 21:53:49 pm »
My LO is 20 weeks and hardly drinking any formula due to theething.  She looks at the bottle and screams.  She's eating her solids well, thank goodness but I'm concerned about the formula.  I've tried sippy cups and she doesn't like them either.  I wish I could teach her how to use a straw.  If I use one to drop formula in she is ok with that but it takes forever to drink a substantial amount.  This afternoon I used 6 oz to make rice and to try to get her to drink.  She scarffed the rice and tried all of the above for the rest of her formula.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  She has been so cranky and not napping well (I resorted to the swing) and I'm kind of going nuts.  We live in Arizona so I'm very concerned about her fluid intake.  I'd greatly appreciate hearing from all of the experienced moms out there.  I'm lost.

I don't know if I can give you much help, but Maggie did the same thing when she was teething.  The best thing I can tell you is it only lasted a few days, then we were right back to normal.  I remember one day she only drank 8oz of formula all day.    She also did well with solids while teething, but the formula was difficult.  I would try to get as much in her anytime of day she will take it.  I offered the bottle every 30 minutes - 1 hour to try to get Maggie to take more.  I hope it is just a phase for you.  If she does seem to get dehydrated call your doc!!  Good luck!!

We noticed Nathan's first tooth tonight.  He is playing with bottles but still taking a good amount.  I hope we do better with him!

Hi

You can also try and rub her gums with teething gel prior to bottle feeding her.

thanks ladies for the reply.  Today is day 3 of poor eating.  At least she'll eat rice and fruit.  Anyway i now have a silly question.  Granted I did give her some tylenol so I'm sure that made her sleepy but she is sleeping more in the day since she's been teething badly.  Is this normal?  She did this yesterday w/o the tylenol.

I felt better last night becasue she drank 8 oz at mindnight.  At least that's something!
