Teething "meds"
« on: June 03, 2006, 16:02:14 pm »
Hi ~ I saw a post about not being able to use the teething tablets & I posted this in there as well ~ but just in case the poster doesn't look there ~ I figured I would share the info....

I went to the nature food store today & picked up some teething stuff ~ it is Camilia, but I think the brand name is BOIRON ~ they are single-use doses.  BEST OF ALL, NO LACTOSE!!!!  The woman there stated that lactose is used in tablets to keep them "gelled" together.  Hope that helps you!!!

The woman even called the company to double check that there was no lactose in them ~ and the main ingred. are of the Hyland teething tablets!

You're correct on both names, I just picked some up recently. It is also available in some major drug stores (I got mine is a Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada).

They are considered homeopathic, from the explanation I was given. I'm surprised orajel isn't working, I've heard from so many that it works! I haven't had to use them yet, my dd is chewing like crazy and I can feel hardness on the edge of her gums but nothing is through yet. I just read that there's not really much pain for when the front teeth come out- it's later when the molars come that it's big pain so I'm going to refrain from using anything until we must.

Lola ~ we have used it a couple of times on our lo ~ they work (or at least we think ~ LOL) really well.  Within a few seconds our son calms down.  I also read that you can give Gripe Water for teething &/or rub some on their gums & it supposedly helps them.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it does work & rather quickly!

Personally, I'm not a fan of Orajel or the like. They do reduce pain, but they can also leave a baby’s mouth feeling as if he has just been to the dentist. Some babies are happy with the pain relief, but others object to the swollen, numb sensation as much as they do to the pain. Either way, the effect of these gels doesn't last long and they do carry a small risk of allergic reactions and decreased gag reflexes.

Both Hylands tablets and Camilia tablets work well. Hylands also makes a homeopathic teething gel that I like a lot.

Gripe water can help because it alleviates gas and many LOs have more gas when teething - but it doesn't actually do much for the teething pain itself.
