Baby on 3 hour wakes 2am to eat
« on: June 05, 2006, 02:31:18 am »
Hi, I am posting for a friend of mine who feeds on a 3 hour routine and her baby will only sleep the most 5 hours at night, resulting in 2am or 3am waking for a feeding.  She is 2 months old.  My question is how she can get her LO to not to wake at that time period for food.  Is getting her to eat more during the day the answer?  Or what would happen if she started to move that 2am feed earlier and earlier by 15min each day until it is a 11pm dreamfeed,  would that work or would she still only wake 5 hours later to eat?  My friend is desperate for some sleep.  Unfortunately I am not that much help because my LO was sleeping 8 hours a night at 6 weeks and she did that all on her own.  So when it comes to advice in this matter I am unaware of the solution.   :-\

At 2 months thats a pretty good strech between feeds.
Keep in mind her little tummy is tiny and can't hold much. Have her persist with a dreamfeed and the feed will move back slowly on its own.  Unfortunitly there really isn't much that can be done. Is this her only night feed btw? you didn't say.
Most 2 month olds can go 6 hours tops between feeds. Sounds like she's right on track.

Yeah it's her only night feed.  I'll let her know that she is good then. Thanks!

Hello, I'm kind of a lurker here but I'll chime in. I have the same problem with my little guy. He eat a LOT for his size (6 oz every 3.5 to 4 hours) and wakes at 2:30 or 3 am, then again at 5 am or so for another bottle. We tried the cluster/dream-feeding after reading Tracy's book, but he would STILL wake up for those bottles. So, we feed him at about 3 pm, then at 7 pm, then again at 11 just so that we're not overfeeding him. I have no idea how we will get rid of those nighttime feedings.
