Hi all,

I was about to start my DS on some solids (just turned 6 months) however we had blip with the breast feeding re: mastitus so I decided to hold of until it has all settled. The thing is since expressing DS has gone down to 4 massive feeds and is still sleeping pretty well at night so I think I might be able to hang off the solids if I choose. I know it could all change very quick and he could start to feed more frequent again but I am interested to hear from anyone that didn't introduce solids until later. What was you feeding pattern like? Did your lo go ages in between feeds? How settled was your lo with sleep? What made you wait longer? Did you get pressure to introduce solids.

Cheers for any responses.

J

Hi there
I have read somewhere that you can wait until he's 9 months old. I'll try finding it and post the sight later on. Starting at 6 months is just for practice. You can maybe just give him a feed or so a week so he doesn't refuse later on. It gets harder as they get older to introduce solids. Your LO will get the most of his nutrition from you until he's a year old. HTH

There is no need to give solids at 6 months, and tons of reasons to delay!

It is a myth that not introducing solids until later will make it more difficult, or will cause baby to refuse to eat solids.  I can't think of any adult who is still breast feeding.  We all learn to eat solids eventually!   ;)

As I'm sure you know, bm should be the main source of nutrition for the first year.  When giving solids, always nurse first so he fills up on the good stuff.  Continue to bf on demand.
