How much milk and when during the day...after 12 months.
« on: June 07, 2006, 04:49:14 am »
Sort of long-winded...
I stopped nursing my daughter (12 months old) because I'm pregnant and my milk supply dropped considerably. She switched over to formula and is drinking three 8-oz bottles a day (total of 24 oz). I have heard that they should be drinking 16 oz of milk/formula after 1 year. Does anyone know how to cut out that extra bottle? Do I still give 3 bottles/sippies but with fewer oz or should she only be getting 2 with 8 oz?

At this point she is definitely transitioning from 2 naps to 1 and I'm having trouble figuring out when I should be feeding solids versus giving a bottle/sippy. Any advice would be great.

Our current routine:
7 am, wakes & eats breakfast (solids)
9 am, bottle/sippy (8 oz)
11 am, down for nap--sleeps 2-3 hours
1-2 pm, wakes & eats lunch (solids)
3 pm, bottle/sippy (8 oz)
6 pm, dinner (solids)
7 pm, bottle/sippy (8 oz)

Thanks again!
Alessia

We got rid of the afternoon bottle for ds around 10 months.  I would substitute a small snack with her sippy at 3PM (you might need to push it to 4PM)  She probably will not even notice. Good Luck!

It looks to me like you would just replace the mid-morning and mid-afternoon bottles with a snack and sippy. And just so you know, when we switched Tyler over to the sippy, there was no way he would drink 8 oz of it at a time. He barely drank a thing until all the bottles were gone, so we'd just offer it to him constantly during the day and make up for it by offering more dairy foods. About 2 wks after we dropped the last bottle, he would drink more at one time so we were able to just offer it at meals and snack time. Good luck!

I am having the same issue but it is with her morning and night bottles. I am worried that if I drop them she won't get enough milk. She has been on two bottles for sometime now and that has been fine but I want to drop the morning bottle this week and maybe the night bottle in a week to two weeks.  She drinks from a cup but only maybe an oz at a time..

Tylersmommy - did you DS start drinking more from a sippy when you cut out bottles?  Did you have to do anything else? Just curious....

About 2 wks after we dropped the last bottle, he finally started drinking well from the sippy. In the meantime, we just offered him lots of dairy foods to make up for the milk he wasn't drinking and we offered him milk from the sippy a LOT during the day. We got an insulated sippy that we could leave out a little longer and have available more often.

If she's drinking an oz or so at a time, that's pretty good! She'll probably drink more when the last 2 bottles are gone.
