Fussy eater ?
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:15:56 am »
I'm not sure if my dd is a fussy eater or not. She eats Yogurt, Fruit, porridge and Stage 2 (Mushy) Purity quite well, but i know that at 7 months she should be taking in more protein in the form of meat, to develop her muscles. She loves veggies (as long as they're really mushy). I have tried adding shredded chicken and meat to her purity, but she turns up her nose and won't eat it. I've also tried giving her the Stage 3 Puritys, with tiny chunks in, but she just pulled the funniest face, gagged and then refused to eat. I've also tried giving her finger biscuits which she plays with until they're mushy and then throws away!

I've been told that at this age she should be "gumming" (she only has 2 teeth  ;) )her food to develop her chewing skills but she seems quite content to just swallow food without chewing it. Should i allow her to continue with this or should i try to give her chunkier foods that will have to be chewed.

If it were me I would continue with the puree's for one of her meals so that she gets her nutrition and persevere with tiny soft lumps for her other meal - she will slowly get used to it with continues experience.
William took ages to get used to having any form of lump in his food but slowly but surely he has got used to them and is chomping away at al sorts of things now. Just be patient - she will get there!

I wouldn't worry too much about it...she's still quite young, and there's plenty of time to develop her gumming skills. It's pretty common for babies that age to still prefer purees. Mine wanted no lumps at all until 9 mo, then he'd only eat finger foods. Go figure! At her age, she should still be getting nearly all of her nutrition from formula and/or breastmilk, so that's where most of her protein is coming from anyway. It sounds like she's on track!
