What is the earliest safest age you can have your LO use a sippy cup with a straw?  Just curious.

Thanks

Zoe

Zoe...I began giving Jessica water in a sippy cup w/ a straw at 4 months. She took to it very well and she never had any problems w/ choking.

Thanks Shelby - I really want to try this, I think he can handle it - but I just wanted some opinions so I wasn't doing something stupid LOL

Thanks!

I exclusively breastfed until 4 months when my DS started having formula occasionally from a sippy cup because i needed to work part time and whilst it was mainly in the evenings there was a teatime feed at weekends that I couldn't cover. By the time I started the job at 5 months, he was drinking from it quite well and could even go and visit grandma without me! I will definately try it again with Number 2.   :)

I started with a sippy cup by about 6 months and offered it occassionally. Didn't really get the hang of it till about 8 months and it took till about 10 months before he was keeping most of it in his mouth. But he is doing great with it now. But, I wasn't needing him to drink whatever was in it - it was optional and he was still nursing regularly as well. The sippy cup was more for a little water and for him to learn to drink from a cup.

We started Ella with water i a strw sippy cup at 6 months and she really took to it.  Then just recently (9 mo) switched her from formul ain bottles at meals to sippy cups and she's doing well with it.  For her it was easier to get the hang of the straw sippy cups than the spout kind
