goes to sleep EXACTLY 14 hours after waking
« on: June 08, 2006, 17:07:51 pm »
okay girls, i feel like i've entered bizarro world.  I noticed months ago that Cole would go to sleep 12 hours after waking.  I just remembered that trend the other day, and I've come to realize he's doing the same thing now, except it's 14 hours after waking.

For example, the past few days looked like this:

Day one: Slept in til 8:10 am, nap 11:30-1:00, didn't go to sleep until 10:10PM!!! tried and tried to get him down earlier knowing he was sick etc and he just wouldn't go to sleep.

Day two: woke at 6:45he had two naps (9:45-11:45 and 2:15-2:45, still a bit sick) and went to sleep right at 8:45pm.  It's like a switch went off in his head.  He was babbling and banging his arm against the mattress then just OUT like a light.  (i was holding his hand)

Day three: woke at 6:45, he had one nap from 10-12:00 and still didn't go to sleep until 8:45!  again, out like a light.

hmmmmm, anyone else experience this?

today he woke at 6:15...i'm not even going to try putting him down until 8:15 and see if he goes right down.  doesn't seem to matter what his naps are like either!

weird!

Yep  and it's the same--14 hours.  In some ways it's helpful because I know that I can't put her down too early for her nap or she'll be awake to long before that natural bedtime and get overtired.  With my dd it's about 5.5 hours after nap wakeup, so I use that to work backwards so he won't be overtired at bedtime--which can cause nightwakings/ early mornings in my dd.

well, apparently his naps do matter a bit.  he only had a 40 minute nap ending at 10:30 yesterday and was falling asleep in someone's arms when i picked him up at 6:15.  They are trying to move him to one nap (and he was doing well) but I think with his cold still lingering he is tired in the morning, so much so they just can't stretch him.

anyway, he crashed at 7:10, and got 11 hours of sleep (several wakeups but went right back to sleep) and was MUCH happier today.  didn't cry when i left him this morning as he has the past few days.  sure hope we're getting over this cold.

i'll see how tonight goes!

Traci - I've seen your postings about Cole and sleep issues here and in the March/April thread (I lurk there since my niece was born March 11). Anyway - was just wondering if you ever looked into food allergies for Cole. Often times, sleep issues can be the only real signs - others can be chronic congestion, constipation, etc. Anyway, just thought it might be worth looking into - I have a friend whose son has intolerances to dairy and soy and she eliminated those but it wasn't until she elmiinated wheat as well that he started to sleep.

A great resource on this topic is Doris Rapp's book "Is This My Child" - a link follows: http://www.drrapp.com/

Sorry to butt in - just an idea I had...

Karen-thank you so much for the tip.  I have just spoken with a relative about possible food intolerances (her daughter has celiac).  I had noticed the other night that Cole's tummy seems a bit bloated and that his BMs are almost always soft...i didn't think they should be given he eats all solid food.

I will certainly take him to his ped and get a referral

as for the 14 hour thing...well, that seemed to be just for a few days.  we're just all over the map!
