formula in sippy with meals
« on: June 08, 2006, 23:49:09 pm »
My ped. said I should try feeding formula and at solids at the same time as it will make it easier of me and the transition at 1 year. Does anyone do this?

Sure do Catherine became fuss with her bottles so i started giving her some in a cup with meals to get some more into her. She now has 2-3ozs with breakfast and 4ozs with dinner. This will make it so much easier to drop the bottles as i know she is already drinking milk with meals.

Hi Natasha! As you know we struggle to eat around here. We have dropped one bottle so we are down to 3 now. Do you give Catherine just the sippy or do you do both. I was thinking that Gage already eats solids so poorly, so I may as well try the sippy ( actually a sippy with a straw)with meals. He drinks very well from the sippy. We had a bad day today so I had to offer formula with meals and no bottles. His intake didnt decrease by much. I plan to give him a bottle before bed though. Is this bad? Is it too early?

I still give a bottle as well, Catherine is down to 2 bottles now one in the morning before her nap and one before bed. I say you should give Gage a bottle when it is best for you both either before or after solids. If he is happy having his formula with his food in a cup and no bottles that is also fine as long as his intake doesn't drop to much. This is what i did before we dropped a bottle:

7.30am - Breakfast cereal mixed with 4ozs milk and 2ozs in a cup
9am - Bottle 6ozs
Sleep
12.30pm - Lunch with water in a cup
2pm - Bottle 4ozs
Sleep
4pm - Snack with water
5.30pm - Dinner with 4ozs milk in a cup
Bath
6.45pm - Bottle 6ozs
Bed.

Problem is my DD doesn't want to drink from a cup much (formula or juice or water) unless she's outside and it's hot or she's eating a teething cookie or something that makes her really thirsty. She would refuse the bottle at that time too. So I can rarely ever get any liquids into her during a meal... Any suggestions? She can use both a sippy and straw cup if she wants to.

Karen all i can suggest is to keep offering with every meal. Catherine didn't take much to begin with and their are some days she doesn't have much with meals and other days she will have 2-4ozs at a time.
