change in weather and colic questions
« on: June 09, 2006, 08:33:20 am »
firstly i would like to thank all the mom's who are such angels sharing their wisdom with us! i am really frustrated and worried about my little baby boy. he is just turned 3 months and has had colic from about two weeks. it is not too severe, he suffers from it from about 3 in the afternoon till the evening and it results in him not being able to sleep and he cries. i have him on colief drops which have lessened the crying. otherwise he is wonderful he has slept through the night from 2 months and the first two naps of the day he will go to sleep easily and normally has to be woken from his sleep. the next two naps are the killers. i put him down about 2 and at three on the dot he will wake and be very hard to calm down he cries in a differrent way and the only thing that helps him is the sound of the hairdryer which lets him sleep. if i switch the hairdryer off he wakes up straight away and will only stay asleep with it on and i think to myself it is better he sleeps then cries for the one hour. the next nap at 5 is even more worse sometimes he will not even sleep with the hairdryer on or even in my arms if i rock him or walk with him he screams and screams. sometimes i am lucky he will manage to catch some sleep which allows him to enjoy his bath and then go to sleep in the evening.

i have been on easy from the beginning but i made one mistake i would wait until my dlo would be asleep on my shoulder before putting him down in the crib. i know his colic has disturbed his sleep from day one, but i have perservered and know i can out him down with his eyes open in the crib and he will rub his face from side to side and sing to himself and fall asleep. but in the afternoon i have to sh pat him for about 40mins before he will fall asleep.

am i using the hairdryer as a prop? i know many moms have posted saying they use a white noise machine or a waves machine or a sleep machine for their babies, and they say it is tool not a prop. could i use wake to sleep with dlo, the thing is i can not tell sometimes he will wake after 45 mins or 30mins or even an hour and the thing is his body jerks so much when he sleeps you can actually see his body jerking out of sleep. does anyone have any suggestions for his naps?

his 5 clock nap his the one where i will resort to anything, when i was clustering his feeds i would take him in the baby carrier to get him to sleep as i know with colic sleeping in an upright position would help, as now he is not clustering he has to sleep 2 hours instead of the 45 mins i didnt know what to do. i have stopped taking him in the carrier i now put him in the crib and when he wakes i try the hairdryer and then shs pat and finally to let him  fall asleep on me as all i want him to do is sleep so he can enjoy his bath.

he does not like clustering, he will take the feed but will throw it all up so i now feed him

7, 10, 1, 4, 7 and then df at 10.30.

now to throw him right off the weather is now hot  and he cant sleep he is so hot and as i have to swaddle him he cant seem to settle to sleep. every nap he wakes up after 30 45 mins and takes 20 mins or 40 mins to settle and he is crying so much. i dont know if he is thirsty should i feed him? and as he is not happy sleeping the day gets worse as he is more and more cranky and his activity time is really short. he can only seem to manage 1 hour waking time. i have read moms saying extend activity time how can you do that? i mean a baby will show his sleep cues so how can you extend his activity time? with the heat he is waking up at night as well he woke at 4 45 today and it took 45 mins to put him to sleep and then he woke again at 620 and i couldn't put him back to sleep so we started the day early. he played for an hour and then i put him in his crib and he put himself to sleep, and then 30mins he woke crying it took 40 mind to out him down and then 20mins later he was crying again so i put the hairdryer on and he fell asleep.

last questions i promise! isn't using sh-pat a prop too? and how do you know when to feed in the heat, is drinking every three hours enough? i am sorry this is such a disjointed mail i have been watching the clock at the same time and trying to write all the things that i know may effect dlo.

i know when he sleeps well he is such a happy baby, and he really does need the 1 1/2  2 hour naps.

please help.

and thank you all in advance as i really appreciate it,

HI!

I am sorry your LO has had such a hard time w/ his colic.  I have printed your post and will have a more detailed read at it again tomorrow.  But i have two questions:
1) is your Breast or Bottle feed?
2) have you look into if your LOs colic is actually reflux?  If so, there are meds that may help him more then the colic tabs?

I'll check back.
