any thoughts on this?
« on: June 12, 2006, 05:44:11 am »
some of you may remember me whining a few months ago b/c my dd (now 21mo's then 16-19mo's) only takes 1 x 1hr 15-20min nap.
she always took good LONG naps until we went to one at 16mos and it was all crap ever since.
so, AnYWAY...
LAST week, she took  a 2hr nap 3 days in a row --just out of the blue ! (she had been doing 1.25-1.5hrs) and I was thinking"Finally, after all this time, she has adjusted to one nap and it is getting longer like everyone told me it would". Well, that was it. after 3 days she's back to he short nap and infact has gone back to 1hr 15min instead of 1hr 30min!!!.
Just curious......DID I MISS SOMETHING? i mean, that was just a cruel joke! LOL...i was SOOOOOOOOOO excited.
i'm confused. just wanted to throw this out there incase anyone has ANY thoughts???
thanks!!

Nicole

What's her schedule like?  It may be that she's getting most of her sleep at night or it could be  that her sschedule needs tweaking.  We only got 2 hour naps with the time change then they started shortening to 1.25 hours then naps back to 2 hours but only about 9.5 hours sleep at night.  So I think they can be all over the map at this stage. ::)

It seems to me that they go through these wierd blips! harrison has "lost" an hour of sleep at the moment! We are waking up at 5am every morning! Some days he will sleep for nearly 2 hours and then he will go back to 1.5 hours with an odd 1 hr 10 thrown in for good measure (like today!)

I have kept a sleep log since January and there is NO PATTERN! I just want a magic formula to leap out at me - so I really know where you are coming from! I am just trying to be consistent and hope that it will all sort itself out.

How is her mood?  It could be that is all the sleep she needs.  How much does she sleep at night?  How much total sleep for the day?

I think it seems to be an age thing and there are so many posts about this same prob. We have it too, it's improved as in the early morning wake up has gone but naps vary, for 2 weeks it was anywhere between an hour 10 mins and 1.5, this along with early mornings and early naptime or bed time made no difference. Then it suddenly stopped, I had 3 great days of 2 hour naps and 12 hour nights and I had to wake dd a lot of the time. Looks like she was just catching up cos the short naps came back, 1.5 though today I got 2 hours and not a peep out of her at bedtime, on the days she naps badly she takes ages to settle at night. I really think it's developmental and they dont need the same amount of sleep everyday so play catch up every few days.

Is she happy during the day?  If so, I'll bet she's getting what she needs.  Mine sleeps about 11 hours each night.  Then she goes through stages... one week with two hour naps each day... the next week she's all over the place.  From an hour to as little as 30 minutes (miserable  :()  I even got a 3 hour nap out her last Saturday!  After 11.5 hours the night before!!  Anyway, my point is I think mine gets the sleep she needs...I think it varies with factors like teething, sickness, & growth spurts.  Especially the growth spurts.  Then she sleeps a ton.  Maybe yours was ina growth spurt when the naps got longer?  Just a thought.
