Hello,
I have a special situation in that I am lucky enough to work for my father in law in a small office that allows me to bring my 8 week old son with me to work.  So in a way I get the best of both worlds .. however this is causing some trouble for DS's nap schedule.  We are slowing trying to get him on EASY but because i cant get him to nap and i need to be able to put him down I end up holding him until he falls asleep to speed up the process.

Is anyone else in this situation?  I have a pack and play at work that I can put him in and my own office so I can turn off the lights.

Basically he wakes around 530 each morning ... eats and then just wants to be awake!  We put him back in his crib and he fusses.  I have tried the paci (spits it out) and the pat/shh ... but it is like he wants to be up for the day at 530.  He eats and we change his diaper at 530. So by 7 he is getting sleepy, but wont nap .. Sometime between 7 and 8 he eats again. I usually put him in the swing around 8 so I can shower and get ready ... he dozes there .. eyes opening and closing and very drowsy, but wont fall asleep.   We leave the house at 9 and it takes about 10 min to get to work.  SOmetimes he falls asleep in the car, sometimes he doesnt.  Once we get to work I feed him, change his diaper and try to get him to wind down for a nap but it is next to impossible.  Today he was basically awake from 5:45 to noon .. with a tiny 30 minute snooze from about 9:20 to 9:50.  He ate again at 10 .. wouldnt eat his full 5oz only ate 2 .. then finished the bottle around 1130 and finally fell asleep at noon with me holding him.

Any suggestions ... please help!

Hi Corey the moderators are great and I'm sure they'll be able to help you but it sounds like he's overtired and having a hard time falling asleep.  Try getting him down sooner, maybe try to get a quick nap in before you leave for work.  My little one is 4.5 mos old and she's just barely pushing 90-120 mins of A time...sometimes it's still too long and she has a hard time.

I'm not sure when they stop this, but they're first nap is a continuation of night sleep so they wake eat and have only about 20-30 min of A time and then they should fall back to leep pretty easily.  I would avoid the swing, unless you want to break him of the motion sleep later (not easy from what I hear).

It sounds like he's up at 5:45 and you don't leave for work until near 10--that's plenty of time for him to get in another 1.5 hours of sleep in not 2 more chunks.  Good luck.
