Fresh Blueberries
« on: June 13, 2006, 20:27:30 pm »
My DD loves blueberry puree and has been eating it for months now with no problems (contrary to some information out there, blueberries and cranberries have a very low risk of allergies, it is strawberries and raspberries that more often cause problems).

She's 10 months (and two days) and starting to eat finger foods but hates anything slimy or wet. So she won't pick up or eat cooked veggies or fruit, even if coated in crushed cheerios. Is it OK to offer fresh/raw blueberries at this age?

Certainly - I have been for about a month now, maybe a bit longer. Depending on the size of the berries you might want to squish them a bit first.

Still a no go here. DD likes blueberry puree but is having an issue with any finger foods that aren't dry - she picked the blueberries but just played with/smushed them. she got one piece in mouth but made a face and spit it back out.

I'm thinking definitely. just don't know what to do about it. she's literally only do graham crackers, puffs, cheerios, bread and chicken nuggets as finger foods. Have tried fruits and veggies of different kinds and pasta as well but it's a no go - she doesn't like the way it feels in her hand or mouth...

Sounds like she likes stiffer stuff. Hmmm... Does she like tofu?

Haven't tried it yet - what form would you suggest? Thinking of trying beans soon too.

I'm still working on getting Colin to eat tofu - it seems that the issue is finding something to mix it with, and I was thinking that blueberries might be just the thing. I tried the firm variety first, but I don't think he liked the texture, so I'll try soft next.
