Hi, new with a question
« on: June 14, 2006, 00:51:26 am »
Hi, everyone.  I'm new here, just finished reading the book yesterday.  We plan to seriously implement EASY next week when my DH has a week off, but I am kinda doing it now.  My LO has been done really well on it today.

My DS is 6 weeks old and we don't really have a routine yet.  My main question about activity time is how long should he be staying awake for this age?  Sometimes he'll stay awake for an hour or so and sometimes only half and hour.

Our routine so far today has been

E 9am
A (about 45 minutes or so)
S 10 or 10:15ish

E Noon
A (about 20 minutes)
S 12:40

E 2:40
A (an hour)
S 4:00

E I'll be waking him up in ten minutes to eat.

Is it normal to flucuate like this?  Do I need to try to keep him up a certain amount of time?  Right now, I'm following his cues and putting him to bed when he starts to yawn and act sleepy.

Thanks,
Jen

Did you see the 3 hour EASY routine in the book?  I went by that to tell me how much awake time.  In the book it says it is 1.5 hours of awake time followed by 1.5 hours of sleep in morning, and late morning, and afternoon, plus a 45min cat nap in the evening.  THose activity times though do include feeding.  But do you do a catnap in the evening?  And what time does your lo go to bed at night?

Here is what is in the book:

E:  7am
A:  7:30
S: 8:30

E:  10:00
A:  10:30
S:  11:30

E:  1:00pm
A:  1:30
S:  2:30

E:  4:00
S:  5:00 or 6:00 or somewhere in between: catnap (approximately 40min) to get baby through the next feed and bath
E:  7:00 (cluster feed at 7:00 and 9:00 if going through a growth spurt)
A: bath
S:  7:30 bedtime
E:  10:00 or 11:00 dream feed

May take a week to get into a routine like this, but once in it you'll find your lo can probably go the whole 1.5 hours, mine still gets tired sometimes 30min prior, but then we just start our wind down earlier so everything is calming and not to exciting for her.

Just to add ... Ciara was only about 1 hour awake time at this age.  I think it depends on your lo.  Once you get to see his tired signs you can read him better and plan EASY around that.  I'd start watching for them around the 50 minute mark.  That way you shouldn't miss them and will leave enough time to get him down

Good luck  :)

My lo is 11 weeks old and is still staying awake for only about an hour.  It can take about a half hour to put her down sometimes but I make sure that by the one hour mark I am starting the nap time routine and about to put her down.
I am so in love with my husband and adore my precious Grace
