long plane flight
« on: June 14, 2006, 12:25:16 pm »
Hi everyone,

My daughter and I are flying from Australia to America this Sunday.  Wish me luck!  Anyways, I am in need of some ideas for finger foods for my 20 month old for a thirteen hour flight that don't need to be refridgerated.  I am taking things like Cheerios and crackers, but would like to give her other things.  It will be a very long two days since we have three plane changes and are staying the night in LA.  Thank you in advance for all your help.

Jennifer

I froze chunky applesauce in empty baby food jars (I know...it is a big NO NO).  But my ds appreciated it so much after hours of crackers, cheerios and other "dry" snacks.

Request a child's meal, they are always good for children.
I have done the flight from Australia to Spain for the last 5 years and have never had any problems. It is a long flight but I found my DD to sleep most of the way.
I always take dried biscuits on the flight too, like milk arrowroot biscuits or anything similar.
If you have a stop half way,get lunch at the airport if you can,as that fills them up too.

Have you been to the doc for some stuff to help them sleep?

Good luck hope all goes well.. :D

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

My daughter has done this plane flight twice, but I just am extremely nervous this time because my husband will not be there to help and she is just getting over an ear infection.  I just want to be overly prepared.  Andrea, are children allowed a toddler meal even though they are a lap child?  I gave my dd Benedryl last time we flew, but I am not sure if I can give it to her because of her antibiotics for her ear infection.  Again, thank you everyone for all your great suggestions.

Yeah I think so with the childs meal.I have always got childs meal before she was 2.
Just make sure you ring the airline before you depart and ask for it,otherwise I don't think they will take it on the plane.

Hi,

My DD loves dried fruit, namely berries.  I also did the biggest NO-NO of them all, freezing milk for a flight.  Frozen juice boxes are good too.

What about pancakes and or french toast?

Remember, never let your LO have ice on an airplane as it is soooooo full of bacteria from the recycled air.

Good Luck,

Richelle

Hi,
I've flown with a little on my lap and have received a meal with QANTAS.  I just rang and made sure it was all done a fortnight before I left.  I have also travelled and not asked for a meal and not been given one.  Mind you it was only a 3 hour flight and DD was asleep, but I think it pays to confirm with them.

How about those processed cheese stick things - a good way of getting some protein.
