We are going on a 3 week trip to South Korea and China leaving right when DS turns 6 months. I am BF, so part of me says, let's just wait till we come back to start solids to make it easier. However, I pump when I am working and pump first thing in the morning, even on weekends to keep up my supply and then feed him after I pump. Since I don't want to drop this pump for 3 weeks and risk my supply dropping, I will need to pump in the morning and don't want to dump it or feed it to him in a bottle. So, I was thinking of starting rice cereal during the trip and mixing it with the mother's milk I pump in the morning. What do you think about starting to mix it also with a vegetable after a few days? The reason I didn't want to start solids during the trip is because I am afraid that if he has a reaction, I won't know if it is from the food or from some illness or disease he could have picked up on the trip. Also, I'm not sure I want to haul 3 weeks worth of baby food along and may not feel comfortable buying it there since we won't be able to read the labels. Any suggestions on how to handle introducing solids at this time and not wasting the milk? Another thought I had was to give him the milk in a cup to give him time to practice using a cup and knowing that a fair amount of it is going to spill and go wasted. I know some milk will go wasted though no matter what because I pump about 8 ounces every morning and that would be a lot of solids if I mixed it!
Thanks!
Claire
