6 month old waking and talking to himself?!
« on: June 16, 2006, 05:45:41 am »
I would like to know if there is anyone out there has the same problem i have?  :-\

Matthew will be 6 months old in 1 week. He has always been a good boy, and i would describe him as a textbook/angel baby. He is in an established 4 hours routine. He eats and sleeps well all the time. But there is only one problem we are having at the moment - he wakes up around midnight everynight in the past week and starts to talk to himself for about half an hour before going back to sleep. We usually get up and give him his dummy. But he will continue to talk until he falls back to sleep. From then he will sleep through to 6am. I think it has become a habit, how do i stop it? ???

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that this is a phase a lot of babies go through where they will wake up and talk to themselves and go back to sleep.  I wouldn't think it is was a problem if you lo is going to back to sleep on his own and sleeping till the morning.  I sounds really cute.

It sound like you've got it made.  :)  I only pray my little girl does as well as yours when she is that age.

Vaness, ditto to what Melissa said. If he's just talking, then definitely leave him be. It's annoying, I know - my DS went through that phase as well. But, it will lessen until it stops. I promise!

Hi all, Thanks so much for your assistance!

Guess what?? Matthew was waking every hour last night! As usual he talks to himself, and i had to go in and give him his dummy. But as soon as i walked in he smiled at me! When i gave him his dummy, he would turned his head the other way and went to sleep straight away. I have no idea what is happening?? I wonder if the waking has become a habit already?!  :'(

I wouldn't think it would become a habit so quickly. I do wonder if the dummy is a prop though, does that sound like a possibility?
