« on: June 16, 2006, 00:43:21 am »
My son is 8 months old and he only naps for 45 minutes how do I get him to go longer?  How do I get him to go back to sleep.  This is mainly during the day at night he sleeps straight through.

I am new to this.  Please help!!!

Please post your routine and we'll have a look - how long is he currently awake for between naps?

I too have an 8 month old taking still taking 40 min. naps, been taking 40 min naps since 4 months ERRRRGGHGHGHGH.   Some naps can go 2 hrs some 40 min.

Our baby BF's 3 x's a day at 7am, noon, 4pm, and gets EBM at 7:30...eats solids at BF, Noon, & Dinner.

He is in bed at 8pm, after nightly routine & sleeps thru till 6:30-7am.

We have the same wind-down routine for naps every day and it's always in the crib (not in car or stroller.)  To figure out when to put him down for naps, I 1st try to see if it's been awake at least 2 1/2 to 3 hrs since awoke last, then I look for sleep window...eye rubbing, fussiness etc.

Developmentally, he's not crawling yet...just rocking on hands & knees.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if someone could help!!!   I know he needs more nap than 40 minutes.   I've tried wake to sleep, PU/PD and nothing has worked.   I've tried so hard to fix this and figure it out, but it has only stressed me out!!!

OK - at 8 months, he should be handle more A time in the morning - which should lead to a longer nap. If he's not waking until 7, I'd push out the first nap until 9:45 - see if you can get him to sleep from 9:45-11. If so, he will not be overtired in the afternoon and likely sleep better for you then. So if his morning nap goes until 10:45/11, I wouldn't put him down for his second nap until 2 and wake him at 3:30 or so and then still on track for 7pm bedtime.
