Starting solids and schedule
« on: June 19, 2006, 18:33:36 pm »
Melia is 6.5 months and we started solids 3 weeks ago.  Since then, her schedule is all messed up.  We were following the EASY step method and were doing great. She was able to fall alseep on her own without being bf'ed or rocked to sleep.  Now that solids are in the mix, she is waking up at 4-5 am to bf and goes back to sleep, does not want to bf when she re-awakes and she now wants to bf to fall asleep for her 2 daytime naps.  Any suggested on how to get her back on track??  Maybe I should reduce her solid intake?? although she loves to eat.  She eats cereal twice a day and veggies for lunch.

You could try reducing the amount of solids she's taking.

I started solids a lot slower with my son.  He only started eating 3 meals a day when he was about 9 months old.  At 6 months, he was eating a few tsp of fruit for breakfast and that's it.

Six months is also a typical growth spurt.  She could also be teething and looking for more comfort from mommy.  Learning new skills can also interrupt sleep.

That's how babies are - once you think you have them figured out, they go and change!

I agree with Mrs Gravy...it's possible that she might be filling up on solids and not taking full nursings when she should. That could make her need a top-up at a time when she doesn't usually eat. Breastmilk contains more fat and calories than solids, so if solids are replacing her bf intake that could be the culprit.
