Trying not to accidentally parent
« on: June 19, 2006, 22:26:01 pm »
I have a 7 week old DD who is BF. She currently gets her DF between 10 and 11, and usually can make it until 3-330. I do realize that she is young enough to need a night time feed, but I want to make sure that I don't cause her to get into a habit of waking up at 3 every night. Should I try the passi first to see if she will go for another hour or so, or should I just feed her because of her young age? Thanks for the help!

i think your lo is doing wonderfully!!

it is absolutely normal for a lo to get one or two feedings (at least  :P) at night at that age :)

you surely can try soothing first with soother, shh/pat, etc. generally the rule of thumb we use is:

if lo settles and wakes within an hr - feed as lo is hungry
if lo settles and wakes after an hr the waking wasn't hunger related

i wouldn't be hesitant to feed lo at this age though as lo needs all the calories she can get to grow strong and healthy!

good luck and congrats!
