Changing postitions
« on: June 25, 2006, 15:01:10 pm »
My newborn seems to be a touchy baby. In the first book, Tracy says that touchy babies don't like to switch postitions - once they start one way, they want to keep going that way. And I am experiencing this. for the first 5 days or so, I used the "football" hold. Since then I've been trying to do one of the cradle holds as this is more comfortable for me. However, DS does not usually eat very well in this position and so I tried the football position again yesterday. Sure enough, he ate like a champ every time! However, he is getting too big to hold like this - especially in a rocking chair. Has anyone successfully transitioned a touchy baby from on BFing position to another? Pointers?

Patience and persistance.  My dd2 would only eat with her head to the left and legs to the right... so cradle hold for left breast and football for right... I have since changed her to cradle fo both sides, but she prefers my left breast hands down!.  Maybe try the new hold for one feed a day, maybe the first one of the day... that way maybe he'll be too hungry to care how he's being held.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months
