NW hungry or habit?
« on: June 25, 2006, 18:12:33 pm »
HI all,
If you could just help me out a little.
I know in the BW nw at the same time are habit and irregular wakings are hunger.  My question though is how regular/irregular are we talking?
My lo wakes around 3 and around 6, sometimes it's 2;45 and other times right at 3am.. the same is true for the 6ish wake.  She'll go back to sleep when I put the paci back into her mouth.  ( which I know I need to wean, but she's teething now as well and I thought it would be better to wait a little bit)  I just want to make sure she's not waking due to hunger. Any help would be very appreciated!

sounds like habit and if she goes back of with the paci and takes longer than an hour to waken again then its not usually hunger.

Sounds to me like it's probably habit/paci related. What does she do when she wakes?

I agree with Emma - if the paci does the job it's probably habit.  Unfortunately I only twigged this when I tried to feed my lo and he would only take a couple of ounces.

She falls asleep in about 5 minutes.  Sometimes it takes 30 minutes but I don't feed her and she usually stays asleep for an hour or two.  So that's a habit then, okay thanks for the input.  She's teething pretty bad right now, so I feel it gives her more comfort to suck on the paci, but I intend to wean her soon ( i'm scared to death...)

Well surely the teething is not helping her sleep either. Don't worry too much about the paci weaning - there have been many people who have had great success! Check out the props board if you haven't already.
