Rolling over and the swaddle!
« on: June 27, 2006, 07:15:57 am »
Hello there! Im Aann and I am needing a bit of help making a decision re. swaddle. I have been wrapping my lo since the vry beginning and it has worked well, even though he worked his way out of it after about 2 months. I have persisted with it as it helps when he is unsettled for the unwind and also I think it reminds him that it is sleep time as it is so ingrained in our sleep/nap routine. He is today 6 months old and is loving being able to roll over on his own. Over the last couple of weeks he has been showing that he wants to be on his side to sleep, and last night he woke himself up in frustration in his attemps to be on his belly (I think) as he could only get half way over . So, my question is- is it time to stop wraopping him so that he has more mobility in his crib, or will that induce fitful sleeping and flailing arms? Is it dangerous to have him wrapped as it resticts his arm movement? Many thanks in advance.

Maybe you can try to leave him unswaddled and see how he does. If he can't get settled just wrap him back up! I would think though that at 6 months he probably does want to move around more. Good luck!

IMHO, i would wean the swaddle, but there are some babies that like to be swaddled till 7 or 8MO, i guess it depends on how you see your LO. At that age i don't think he'll have much trouble getting used to his arms free, so my suggestion would be to wean... yep....

Thanks a million everyone! What you all said, about weaning him off it, sounds spot on! I think Ill just have to grit and bear a few days of him missing it: maybe I could just leave it by him in the cot. i just gotta face the facts that he is growing into a big boy!
Thanks again all!
