Stopping dream feed, just some quick advice please!!
« on: June 28, 2006, 08:47:45 am »
My DS is just over 6 months old. He's been on solids for about 4 weeks and is now on three meals a day. He eats most vegetables and fruit, cereal (weetabix, readybrek), yogurt. I'm starting him on meat this week.

I want to stop the dream feed, (I've only just read the recent thread on this), but last night I tried giving him an extra feed at 5pm then he had his 7pm bf and I just decided to see what would happen if I didn't df. He slept until 6am. Now I'm not sure exactly what to do, whether to go back and wean him from the df by bringing it earlier by 15mins as per the recent thread or to just carry on like I did last night? Just don't want him to get in the habit of a 6 am wake up time!! Just wondered if anyone had any ideas???

His routine is,

7am bf
8am Solids - cereal and fruit
9am nap

11am bf
12pm Solids - Vegetables and yogurt with fruit and water in a cup
1pm nap

3pm bf
4-4.30 Solids - Vegetables and diluted juice in a cup
5pm (sometimes has a nap if not slept as well in the day due to outings etc)
6.15 bath, story
6.45 bf and bed

df between 10.30 and 11

Many thanks

Rachel

I really think it depends on how you really feel about 6 am wake ups. For me, last night would have been a dream and I'd try and recreate last night if I was you. A 6 am wake-up after a full night's sleep sounds great to me!
It is a great situation to be in - a lot of 6 month olds do not sleep for that interval and many still have night feeds. I would do a little dance and celebrate.
If 6am makes you very sad then you could try and play around but I would say don't play around with the dreamfeed if you don't need to. It may have just gone in one go.

P.S You could think about pumping when you did do dreamfeed to help your supply and build up a useful store - just a thought.

Thanks for the reply, I really didn't mean to sound like I was complaining! I was very pleased (and surprised) that he slept so long I was just worried that I hadn't dropped the feed according to the suggestion in the book and that that may cause problems later on or something! Good idea about the expressing, think I will do that, need to get a supply together for returning to work soon.

Many thanks
