Need Help with 6 month old schedule!!
« on: June 29, 2006, 14:38:57 pm »
Right now this is my 6 month old schedule. Please help me.

5:30 to 6:00 wake up...Would like for him to sleep until 6:00-6:15

6:00 am Eats 7oz

7:15 am  Solid

7:45 naps for 1 hour so he is up at 9:00

10:00 7 ounce bottle

11:00 solids ( If he is still awake) He can only stay up for 2 hours!

Naps for 1.5 hours here so he is up at 1:00

2:00 7 ounce bottle

3:30 naps for 30 minutes to 45 minutes

5:00 solids

6:00 bottle and he is ready for bed! He starts to yawn at 5:30 and would go to bed here if I would let him. I wish he could stay up until 6:30 or 7:00.

Help me with this. Him waking at 5:30 is killing me. Do I need to extend wake time? How can I get him to sleep longer in the morning? Do I need to try to keep him up later than 6:00 p.m.

Hi there - I spotted a couple of things;

1. Usually around 6months LO drop their catnaps, is your LO actually tired or are you giving a catnap because it is what you have alwyas done?  Try and reducing the length of the catnap

2.Try and aim for a 2hr 'A' time from wake up - or at least build up to this.

3. He is possibly on the verge of getting too much day time sleep.

4. What does he do in his 'A' times, is your LO being stimulated enough, the reason I ask is you say he is awake from 4/4.15pm from catnap then is yawning again at 5.30pm and ready for bed again.

Considering he goes to bed at 6pm, at wakeup of 5.30-6am is excellent. If you start extending 'A' times you will naturally increase his day and start to push the bedtime out to a later time in increments.

definately aim to drop the catnap. recently my 6 month old DD was starting to wake up more times at night and wanted to start the day at 5.15 some mornings, so we cut out her catnap 2 days ago and she seems to have gone back to normal (for now) and wakes once a night for a feed and gets anytime after 7am in the mornings.

she was just getting too much sleep in the day. you have to tweak her daily routine a bit so they can make it through their bath, but it works it's self out  ;D

If I dropped his catnap, then he would be awake for 4 hours straight until bedtime? Or would I try to extend his Activity times and naps so that it will fall into a better routine? What is your 6 month old currently doing routine wise? If they have two naps, how long should each one be? 1.5 to 2 hours each?

Yes, you need to extend A times, so the gap between last nap and bedtime is not 4hrs  ;)  I think we had 2 x 1.5hr naps at this age, but all LO's are different.

Extending A times should be a gradual process try for 15mins at a time.
