Is it normal...
« on: June 29, 2006, 20:49:18 pm »
to have to wake my son for every single feeding at 5 weeks???  He definitely wants to go longer than 3 hours.  I read somewhere that if your waking them for every feeding, to go on a 3.5 hour schedule instead of 3.  Is that at this early age as well?

I thinnk it is quite normal to have to wake your LO's for feeds at 5weeks.   Changing to 3.5hr EASY is all about him staying awake for longer periods within the 3.5hr cycle as well.  You may find if he is allowed to sleep this additional 30mins each cycle it will start to detract from his night time sleep.

Can you post your routine?

Sure can!

Right now, I don't wake him to start our day so our wake times change constantly...giving us a different schedule each day.  Once he sleeps 8 hours at night, things will be more consistent I'm sure...but here goes what it was yesterday and today (just so happened to be the same)

E 4:30 a.m.
A none
S 5:15ish back to sleep in crib

E 8:30 a.m.
A at this time, I normally run errands, playdates with older child
S on/off as we run our errands

E 11:30 a.m.
A diaper change, cuddle with Mom for a few minutes
S 12:30 p.m. in crib

E 2:30 p.m. I always wake him for this feed
A diaper change, quick cuddle with Mom and play with sister
S 3:45 p.m. in crib

E 5:30 p.m.
A this is crazy time as its our dinner time as well so he mostly plays in his bouncy seat
S 6:45 p.m. in crib

A 7:45 p.m. I usually awake for bath, play time with family (if he's cranky when I wake him, I give him an ounce or two to hold him over)

E 8:00 p.m. (after sister is in bed)
S 9:00 p.m. in crib

11:15 DF

Looks from your routine he can stay up approx. 1hr (inc. feed) this is normal.

If it were me I would continue on a 3hr routine and wake for feeds. It would also be beneficial to have a set wake up time, so your routine is more 7am - 7pm for example.  See a 3hr EASY example routine here. https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=62100.0

Your routine looks fantastic.....
